The first shootout

Paraguay 0 Japan 0 Paraguay win 5-3 on penalties

With both sides looking to reach the quarterfinals for the first time in their history, Paraguay won the first penalty shoot-out of thisWorld Cup scoring all five of their penalties after a disappointing match had finished 0-0 at the end of extra-time.

Spain 1 Portugal 0

European champions Spain moved into the quarter-finals of the World Cup thanks to a David Villa’s fourth goal of the tournament. Spain’s slick brand of passing football was very effective leaving Portugal chasing the ball for the majority of the game.
Portugal’s Ricardo Costa sent off for an off-the-ball clash with Joan Capdevila but by then, victory was already Spain’s.

The quarter finals
So now we know all 8 teams making up the quarter finals and their ate some really mouth watering matchups:

Holland v Brazil
Uruguay v Ghana
Argentina v Germany
Paraguay v Spain
