Reasons To Be Cheerful

I love reading tabloid newspapers. The Sun, Daily Mirror and even the Daily Mail, give me much entertainment during the transfer window. So here is a roundup of today’s silly season soccer sensations from The Sun and others.

Matthew Upson could be rejoining Arsenal, so says journalists close to Arsene Wenger. Perhaps not that close, perhaps not even in the same postcode. But Upson did spend six years at the Gunners and Arsene has mentioned (allegedly) from time to time that selling him was a mistake. Perhaps not too far fetched, Avram may want to get as much cash as possible while he is not a free agent.

A couple of stories from the Daily Fail, I mean Mail, for Hammers fans to have a giggle about. Firstly the Mail is suggesting that Luke Young could head to Upton Park after his move to Liverpool failed to materialize. This one is a bit hard to believe as Grant has brought in Winston Reid and Tal Ben Haim. In addition Luke is the wrong side of 30, so the move doesn’t seem to make much sense for the Villa player.

One rumour that is going round the papers is that the Hammers could be trying to sign Manchester City’s Felipe Caicedo on loan. The 21 year old striker is out of favor, along with so many at Man City, so a loan deal for the Ecuadorian could be on the cards now Mario Balotelli has arrived on the scene.

Lastly a oldie, but a goody, Loic Remy, the Nice striker who signed for Marseille in a

Back Off Billionaires, Arsenal Supporting Fanshare Scheme

The situation in England right now is that big Premier League clubs are owned by big foreign billionaires. Fans of Manchester United and Liverpool can protest and complain about their owners all they like, but they don’t have a say in what those billionaires do with or to the team. As much as Red Devils fans “Love United, Hate Glazer”, the red headed American owns 100% of shares and is in charge. Ditto at Chelsea, though fans obviously have less cause to complain about Roman Abramovich.

Arsenal have been expected to go down the big billionaire route at some point, with shareholders Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov both rumoured to be interested in sucking up more shares and following through with a full takeover. However, the club today announced their support of a clever new Arsenal Fanshare scheme scheme from the Arsenal Supporters Trust that should allow fans to own shares instead of billionaires.

Fans could technically own shares any time they wanted. All they had to do was pay the going rate of around

They think it’s all over…

So here we are, the last weekend of the Premier League and there’s only 2 things left to play for…
Well I say, only 2 things but they really are 2 BIG things!!

Firstly there’s the title itself:
Chelsea are at home to Wigan, knowing a win will secure the title, while Manchester United host Stoke, knowing that they have to win to have any chance of beating Chelsea to the silverware.

We reckon Chelsea will beat Wigan 3-0, while Manchester United will win 2-0 leaving the final table as it is now, Chelsea by one point from United.

Meanwhile Tottenham have a very slight chance of avoiding the Champions league qualifier if they can win at Burnley and Fulham turn over Arsenal. Dont think that will happen though, so it will end as it started will Arsenal in 3rd and Tottenham having to go through the qualification process.

We’ll know for sure tomorrow night !

No matter who you support, there’s bound to be something to tempt you at Footballbits Football Souvenirs. There’s a huge selection of officially licenced football souvenirs, merchandise, memorabilia and gifts, perfect for football fans of all ages and at affordable prices.

Does nobody want to win the league?

So Arsenal have thrown away the slight chance they had of winning the premiership with defeats at Tottenham and now Wigan.

Chelsea slipped up against Tottenham when they had a real chance of getting one hand on the title. With Manchester United only just scraping an injury time winner at City it really does look as if no team really wants to win the Premier League !

Whoever wins it in the end, or whoever you support, there’s bound to be something for you at Footballbits Football Souvenirs

Football’s frozen bits – Orange balls anyone?

Looks like the weather has got the better of this weekend’s football, just like it managed to stop the blogging this week..

frozen pitchHalf of the weekend’s Premier League programme succumbed to the snow yesterday amid concerns that not enough effort was being made to keep some matches on.

Fulham, Sunderland and Burnley announced that todays games have been postponed, while Liverpool, due to play Spurs tomorrow made an early application to the Premier League to call the game off.

Hull’s game with Chelsea was finally called off last night after being doubt all day.

The Premier League said: “It is unfortunate that these matches have had to be called off, however the advice from the statutory authorities in light of continuing adverse weather conditions was to postpone”
(Translation – its cold, icy and very slippery!)

So far the Premier League games still on are:
Arsenal v Everton
Birmingham City v Manchester United
Manchester City v Bolton (Monday)
Wigan v Aston Villa

Of course  if you are really cold, you should be wearing your teams hats scarves and gloves from www.footballbits.co.uk

As so often, the final word goes to Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger: “Nobody acepts any risk any more and everybody is guided by fear”, “If one person out of 60,000 has an accident, you feel guilty. That is why the games are postponed when there is no real need for it”
