Who says there’s no romance left in football just moneybags teams?
Yesterday in the Championship play off final at Wembley, Blackpool came from behind to beat Cardiff City 3-2 and gain promotion to the Premier League.
The ragtag team, managed by Ian Holloway and a record signing costing just £500,000 showed there can still be a fairytale ending for so called lesser teams.
Blackpool have had the lowest attendance in the Championship this season and Bloomfield Road only holds 12,000 fans, so some visiting supporters are going to get a shock when they get there, but no doubt that will be countered by a great weekend at the seaside resort.
Originally touted as relegation favourites, Blackpool fully deserved their win at a sweltering Wembley. All five goals came during a fantastic opening 45 minutes.
The tangerines boss, Holloway said afterwards, “The best players in the world are now going to be coming to Bloomfield Road,” and that really said it all. They will doubtlessly be favourites for relegation next season but with some astute signings and possibly some season long loan deals they could have a chance of staying up.
Footballbits would like to add our congratulations and wish Blackpool well for next season. It’s refreshing to see that there’s still hope for the small teams
So here we are, the last weekend of the Premier League and there’s only 2 things left to play for…
Well I say, only 2 things but they really are 2 BIG things!!
Firstly there’s the title itself:
Chelsea are at home to Wigan, knowing a win will secure the title, while Manchester United host Stoke, knowing that they have to win to have any chance of beating Chelsea to the silverware.
We reckon Chelsea will beat Wigan 3-0, while Manchester United will win 2-0 leaving the final table as it is now, Chelsea by one point from United.
Meanwhile Tottenham have a very slight chance of avoiding the Champions league qualifier if they can win at Burnley and Fulham turn over Arsenal. Dont think that will happen though, so it will end as it started will Arsenal in 3rd and Tottenham having to go through the qualification process.
We’ll know for sure tomorrow night !

Been playing around making some Squidoo lenses today

So Arsenal have thrown away the slight chance they had of winning the premiership with defeats at Tottenham and now Wigan.
Chelsea slipped up against Tottenham when they had a real chance of getting one hand on the title. With Manchester United only just scraping an injury time winner at City it really does look as if no team really wants to win the Premier League !
