The whole Carlos Tevez saga is quickly turning into a farcical situation, with the AWOL player and his club, Manchester City, seemingly growing further and further apart by the day.
However, neither side really seems too bothered by the whole affair. While the Citizens have been dominating the Premier League, Tevez has been enjoying himself back in his homeland.
Indeed, the former United man even entered a golf tournament for both professionals and amateurs in Buenos Aires, which he won after partnering golfers Sebastian Fernandez and Andres Romero.
When quizzed about the state of mind of his golf chum, Fernandez said: “He did not say anything about his problems with his club, but I was struck by the peace he had. He plays golf very well.”
At least if his football career permanently grinds to a halt after the drama with City, Tevez might be able to make a few shillings on the golf course.

All of UEFA’s perspex balls of destiny have been drawn from their respective goldfish bowls of fate and, as a result, the groups for the 2011/12 Champions League look like this…
Group A: Bayern Munich, Villarreal, Manchester City, Napoli
Group B: Inter Milan, CSKA Moscow, Lille, Trabzonspor
Group C: Manchester United, Benfica, Basel, Otelul Galati
Group D: Real Madrid, Lyon, Ajax, Dinamo Zagreb
Group E: Chelsea, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Genk
Group F: Arsenal, Marseille, Olympiakos, Borussia Dortmund
Group G: Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit St Petersburg, APOEL
Group H: Barcelona, AC Milan, BATE Borisov, Viktoria Plzen
Well, Man City’s draw could have been a lot worse with Barcelona, AC Milan and Dortmund being the toughest possible permutation but it’s not as though the balls have been especially kind to them – Bayern Munich are seasoned heavyweights whereas both Villarreal and Napoli are not to be underestimated.
The January transfer window has opened but as yet there hasn’t been much to talk about. Manchester City have agreed a transfer fee with German side Wolfsburg for their Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko. The 24 year old has scored 66 goals in 111 games so it is not surprising that Wolfsburg manager Steve McLaren was not too keen to sell him. It has been reported that Bayern Munich have made a last minute bid, though I can’t see anyone getting in the way of a move for Edin Dzeko to Manchester City. Money talks!
As Man City continue to push for a Champions League position, if not the Premier League, it is essential they add one or two top quality strikers to their squad to relieve the pressured shoulders of sulky home-sick Carlos Tevez considering the ineffectiveness of Emmanuel Adebayor and Joe; and the surprising statement from Roberto Mancini that Paraguay international, Roque Santa Cruz is surplus to requirements.
I’m surprised Mancini is letting Roque Santa Cruz go as I have always considered him to be a good striker, and he showed he can play in the Premier League when he was at Blackburn Rovers. It is no surprise that several clubs have apparently shown interest in signing Roque Santa Cruz including Fulham who are currently managed by his former boss, Mark Hughes. West Ham and Aston Villa are also allegedly interested in his services.
So, on to Blackburn Rovers whose owners decided to sack Sam Allardyce in December. At the time I felt this was to announce a new manager in time for the January transfer window and we were going to see a well-known manager be given a large sum of money to stamp his authority on the team and also announce the Indian Venky Group ownership to the world. Well, this week they have been linked to one of the biggest names in world football, Ronaldinho. A well seasoned player that would certainly make a statement of intent for the new Blackburn owners though I’m not sure what else they would receive from a footballer that is currently overweight, overpaid and well past his sell by date!
Furthermore, the owners have stated that caretaker manager Steve Kean will remain in charge at least until the summer. But it’s clear that any big name signings with overinflated wages and egos are going to create even more problems for a little known manager.

Dedryck Boyata saw red for City after just five minutes after he brought Marouane Chamakh down with the striker through on goal. Samir Nasri put the Gunners ahead before Fabregas saw Joe Hart save his penalty after the Spaniard had been fouled by Vincent Kompany.
But further goals followed in the second half for Alex Song and Nicklas Bendtner and Fabregas felt he and his team-mates were excellent value for their three points.
“I think we played some outstanding football and it’s difficult to stop a side when they play at that tempo,” Fabregas told Sky Sports 1.
“It’s very difficult what to know what will happen (over the rest of the season) and we have an important game on Wednesday (against Newcastle in the Carling Cup), but it’s a good victory against a good team.”
The Spain international did not believe the sending off changed the course of the game.
“Even if they were 15 and we were 11 we would still go and win,” Fabregas said. “We always want to go forward and create chances but the way we played today, we were very difficult to stop. I think we were fantastic.”
The Gunners are now five points behind leaders Chelsea, but Fabregas does not see the Blues as overwhelming title favourites.
