Patrick says non

Patrick Viera Inter MilanLooks like Patrick Vieira is saying ‘non’ to Arsenal preferring to stay at Inter, despite rumours suggesting he could return to the Premier League to join up again with Arsene Wenger. Spurs were also rumoured to be keen on signing the French midfielder

It had been rumoured that Vieira could leave the Serie A champions to secure regular first team football in the build up to next summer’s World Cup.

And while we’re talking about Arsenal and Milan (well OK this is the other Milan) AC Milan are reportedly about to place a £30m bid for Spanish central midfielder Cesc Fabregas

4 days to go til the season starts and the stories come thick and fast…

The merry go round is in full swing

With the new season just over 2 weeks away, the usual Premier League transfer merry go round continues but this year with another big player.

Big spending Manchester City‘s manager Mark Hughes has really splashed the cash in order to try and break into the ‘Big 4′. Makes you wonder how long he has in the job if they dont succeed.

With Carlos Tevez (£25m – Corinthians via Manchester United :p ), Gareth Barry (£12m – Aston Villa), Roque Santa Cruz (£17m – Blackburn Rovers) and now Emmanuel Adebayor (undisclosed – Arsenal) already on board, Hughes has really started building his ‘All star squad’. The pockets of the owners appear to be bottomless (unless they dont win anything?) so where will it end?

Might be a good job that Kaka and Terry didnt follow the money (if that’s what really happened) as if this lot start to gel Ferguson, Benitiz, Wenger and Ancellotti could well be looking over their shoulders worriedly.

And talking of the others, Ferguson’s Manchester United may have got a bargain in Micheal Owen (Free – Newcastle) if he can stay injury free. Apart from Owen, Ferguson hasn’t really started to spend the £80m he received for Christiano Renaldo.

The other 3 of the ‘Big 4′ have been relatively quiet. Wenger’s Arsenal have bought in Thomas Vermaelen for an undisclosed fee from Ajax, Chelsea‘s only real purchase of note is Yuri Zhirkov (Undisclosed- CSKA Moscow). And Liverpool look to be content with bringing in Glen Johnson (Undisclosed – Portsmouth) Oh and they did give a free transfer to Jermaine Pennant!

Of the rest I guess the biggest signing is ‘the freak’, as Harry brings in the 9 foot tall Point Guard, sorry striker, Peter Crouch to Tottenham (Undisclosed – Portsmouth) – Wonder what Keane and Defoe think of that?

Newly promoted Wolves went on a hit and run raid of Reading and bought in striker Kevin Doyle (Undisclosed) and Marcus Hahnemann (Free).

As I said at the start, 2 weeks to go, will there be any more big name (and probably bigger money) signings ?
